Eyes on the goals

eyes on the goals

At work and at play, it pays to focus on the goals. For Aries A. Rondares, this means accurate billing procedures during office hours, and dominating plays during basketball games. For Jan Michael Vincent “JM” M. Ty, this entails analysis of insurance transactions in the office, and team harmony on the basketball court. Both InLifers scored game points and #friendshipgoals during the recent InLife Basketball Tournament.

As part of InLife’s Billing and Conservation section, Aries ensures timely and accurate billing for policyholders, and proper payment allocations to their accounts. “Our primary goal is to ensure efficient and accurate billing procedures, while also implementing strategies to conserve resources. This helps our company maintain profitability and provide better services to our clients,” he explained.

JM is a finance analyst from Finance’s Insurance and Distribution Unit. “My role is to analyze insurance transactions and their financial impact on our books. We also provide monthly Policy Benefit Expense and Commission reports and other reports to our partner units,” he said.

Most Valuable Player

Aries led the Wealth Assure basketball team composed of InLifers from other divisions, namely, Information Technology, Strategic Procurement and Executive Support, Group Distribution, Real Property, Finance, and Audit.

Aries shared that basketball is more than just scores and trophies. “Every game highlights the significance of leadership and communication within the team. A team captain guides the team towards a common goal, fosters a supportive team environment, and ensures proper motivation of team members,” he said, adding that their team focuses on individual skills as well as on team dynamics.

What made him the tournament’s most valuable player (MVP)? Aries, who has been playing basketball since he was 8 years old, said the MVP attributes resonated well with the team. And these include teamwork, leadership, determination, hard work, adaptability, and game knowledge.

These MVP traits likewise manifest in his work and personal life. “I set clear goals, collaborate with others, and take initiatives. I also maintain a positive attitude, manage my time, embrace challenges, learn continuously, and remain humble,” he said.

As a member of InLife’s employee engagement team The Good Squad, Aries regularly supports the company’s sports-related activities. He noted that as an actively engaged InLifer, he earns the physical fitness advantage from sports, the social gain of camaraderie among fellow InLifers, plus immeasurable fun.

“The company tournament created a fun atmosphere and enhanced the camaraderie among employees. Playing sports like basketball motivates me because I acquire the social benefits from my affiliation with a team, improve my physical fitness, and have fun at the same time. And because of our basketball interaction, InLifers already have that level of ease in dealing with each other for work-related functions,” Aries said.

Chillax Team Captain

JM, on the other hand, led the Resilience basketball team composed of InLifers from Finance, Audit, Legal and Governance, Business Transformation, Insurance Operations, Agency Compensation and Benefits Management, and Information Technology. The first-time Team Captain has been playing basketball for exercise and fun since grade school.

“My role in the team is to encourage everyone to play, enjoy and have fun in every game. Manalo-manalo, matalo-matalo, chillax lang na captain. Pero yung play-offs na, chillax pa rin pero gusto na manalo. What’s important is the mutual respect within the team, regardless of our work roles, ages, and playing skills. This leads to a happy and harmonious team,” he said.

JM pointed out that the tournament builds camaraderie, friendships and synergies among employees. “We got a chance to know more fellow InLifers. Basketball brings people together, not only the players and organizers, but also other colleagues who watch the games. During sports events, camaraderie and love for the game build up, and support for the team or work unit shows up,” he said.

InLife employees eagerly look forward to sports events that provide a refreshing break from their daily routines. These tournaments not only enhance the employees’ physical well-being but also foster a sense of unity among InLifers, underscoring the company's dedication to holistic employee growth. The friendly competition and mutual support during the tournaments strengthen relationships and nurture a positive work atmosphere. The focus on teamwork and sportsmanship transcends to the workplace. As InLifers unite to achieve their shared game objectives, they carry this collaborative and determined spirit to their professional pursuits, thus contributing to a cohesive and motivated workforce.
